A Conversation with wollyhoodgrl.
After see Wollyhoodgrl`s designs, her friends begged her to create jewelry for them and what started out as a hobby evolved into a successful business.MSD: What made you decide to do this?
WOLLYHOODGRL: I decided to get into designing/making jewelry because I would see pieces around the city on other women or in shops that I thought I could make for myself. Fortunately, my mother is a jewelry designer, and had all the tools and materials I needed, so when I was home visiting I made some necklaces and earrings for myself. When my friends saw the pieces I had made, they started requesting that I make them necklaces for gifts. From there, I got more and more requests and then it evolved into a business.

MSD: Did you find any of the Steps particularly challenging? If so, how did you overcome the obstacle(s)?
WOLLYHOODGRL: The hardest step was believing enough in my designs to take them to market. I knew I liked what I was making and my friends really seemed to like my jewelry also, but trying to find someone who was willing to carry my line in their store was something I wasn`t sure would actually happen. My mom came to NYC for a visit and while we were shopping in the Meat Packing District, she was checking out the jewelry in a store and commented that my line of jewelry would really fit with what they were selling. So, I asked the sales gal if I could get the information for the buyer of the boutique and the woman`s name happened to be Stacia also! That was all the kismet I needed to send an email to (Stacia) the buyer/owner of the shop. She had me bring in my line the following week and that was the beginning of it all!

MSD: Any general advice or tips you`d like to share?
WOLLYHOODGRL: My advice or tip to any designers out there is to believe in what you are making but take suggestions and constructive criticism from fashionable friends. Stay in tune with what`s going on...not just in jewelry, but fashion in general and also what is on the streets! Lastly, it`s really hard to try and create something that has never been done before, but try not to steal another artists design(s).

MSD: What`s the next Someday you plan to make a reality?
WOLLYHOODGRL: The next Someday I planned to make a reality was to get my line into Henri Bendel, but I was just notified earlier this week that I am scheduled there for two trunk shows over the next two months! So, I guess my next Someday will be to get my jewelry line sold in Bergdorf Goodman, Anthropologie, Opening Ceremony and Pixie Mart!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
