A Conversation with lulu.
Lulu was about to turn 30 and decided the time was right to chart her own course. Now she`s got keys to her own place and a new sense of independence.MSD: What made you decide to do this?
LULU: I had been living with my parents for a long timetoo long. And I was about to turn 30. I generally have a harmonious relationship with my parents, and they were completely supportive of me while I went to grad school and then finally found a job that would allow me to get on my own two feet financially. But after a while I felt that my growth as a person was being stunted by being taken care of by them for too long. Also, in American culture it is an embarrassment to live with your parents late in your 20s and into your 30s. As much as I like to disregard certain mainstream cultural taboos, I`d be lying if I said this one didn`t affect me. I kept telling myself, in Italy this is normal (I`m half Italian). But it still didn`t make that nagging feeling go away.

MSD: Did you find any of the Steps particularly challenging? If so, how did you overcome the obstacle(s)?
LULU: The first step, getting a job, was probably the hardest. I had been looking since the summer and didn`t secure one until November. Personally I think I won the lady who interviewed me over by asking her why she got involved in the field. She seemed surprised and touched that I would be interested to know about her. Another difficult step was looking at apartments. It was exciting at first, but a lot of the places in my price range were depressingly crappy abodes. I looked at about 19 apartments in 2 weeks, and it got to be exhausting, until I was pleasantly shocked by finding the one I ultimately chose.

MSD: Any general advice or tips you`d like to share?
LULU: Be thorough in your apartment search. If you use Craigslist, type in your price range and one specific town at a time. Go look at them all and don`t give up when you first get tired of it and think you`ve found some place that will suffice. There might be a place that is amazing around the corner. Also, ask if they have ever had bedbugs in the building!

MSD: What`s the next Someday you plan to make a reality?
LULU: I really want to record a decent solo album of my songs. I`m sure it will be a slow process, but I`m going to take some lessons to learn how to use recording software, and finally get myself on the path to making this someday a yesterday!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
