Someday I'm going to:
Catch a musky by: lporcano
While I have caught many different kinds of fish over the years, the Musky has always eluded me. The Musky has now made it to the top of my list for the next fish I want to catch.

  • img_ the next step is identifying the right tackle to use. muskies can grow to 5ft, weigh 60lbs, and have huge teeth. the lightweight tackle i use for smallmouth won`t work here. update: i plan on using a penn reel spooled with 50# test spiderwire on an 8ft berkley rod. i have used this combination fishing for striped bass, and believe it is up to the task here. a shorter rod would limit casting distance with the size lures i will be throwing, while a larger one would be difficult to manage in the smaller boat i will be using.

  • img_ figure out where i will fish from. i currently fish from a kayak most of the time, and simply wade the river the rest of the time. hooking into a musky from a kayak, may result in something like a nantucket sleigh ride. i need to determine if anyone has managed large muskies from a kayak, and if so what is a good strategy. if the kayak won`t work, i am going to have to find an appropriate boat to use for this someday update: after reviewing options i settled on a one man pontoon boat. while somewhat unconventional, it will let me reach areas of the river that would otherwise only be reachable by jet boat or kayak. i really don`t like running jet boats on the river, and the kayak does not have the stability i would like for landing fish this size.

Foster(1094 Days ago)The only fishing story I have (that I`m prepared to tell) involves a Musky:

I was a kid, maybe 12, hanging out a friend`s cottage in the cottage country of southern Ontario. We were out on a lake with his older brother after an unsuccessful fishing venture. His older brother was trolling in when he got snagged. He backtracked to the catch, tugging and trying to free his line from the murky waters, almost ready to cut the line and lose his lure, when with one final tug the assumed log or stone in the water suddenly jerked back. After half an hour of battling it out he finally managed to lure in and net (with his younger bro`s, my friend`s, help) a 28" or 28lb fish... I just remember the number, but it was a good size at any rate, and an elusive Musky nonetheless! Good luck!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
