Hi, everyone.
I am going to a Career Fair where I have a chance to meet professionals from Media industry.

When I go to these kinds of networking event, I usually don`t know well how to start the conversation.
I mean I can introduce myself but how can I keep the conversation going well and hopefully get a job interview??

Any advice is appreciated :)

Hello,

Philip Wilde here.

The key to networking is to:
-Always approach your target with confidence and a smile. (This allows for a friendly and mutully supportive vibe)
-Always ask qualifying questions to break the ice. (What are their interests, where re they from, what industry, how long, etc.)
-Be indirect about what you want. (i.e. I really enjoy talking to people, organizing, planning, etc. ) Never say I want to be an event planner, etc., It takes away from possible openings.
-Ask what qualities they seek in the employee.
-Always have a n interest in long term work.

-Stay casual and create a dialogue.
-Ask for a business card: when they give you a card, ask questions about them and write non the card any reminders from the conversation. (i.e lives in Wyoming, likes fishing, etc.)
-Always have a pen.

-Never lose eye contact.

-Phil

Don`t drink coffee right before you talk to someone (coffee breath) and brings mints. And always remember that you are the best - even if you aren`t you can fool yourself into believing it and improve your body language, calm your nerves, and more easily convince people that you are the best. Good luck!!!!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
