A Conversation with christine.
Christine was unfulfilled in her consulting career so she pulled the plug and charted a new course in fashion. Now she is happier than ever!
MSD: What made you decide to do this?
CHRISTINE: Since 2002, I had been searching for a more creative career path where I would feel fulfilled. That year I quit my consulting job and enrolled in grad school. After graduating, I still wasn`t sure what my ideal job would be, so I ended up following a creative career path that had a lot of opportunities but it still wasn`t something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. After a bit of soul searching, I tried several different careers, but still no luck. After a family trip to a spiritual healing center down in Brazil, I asked for an answer to my burning question and later that day someone suggested fashion design and studying at Parsons. It was a career that I`d never before considered. After some serious consideration, I realized that it had been an interest of mine all along and thought I would have a lot of fun and feel much more fulfilled. I took the plunge and applied to school in NYC knowing full well that we would only be able to move if my husband could find a job in New York. Somehow the stars aligned and a month or two later my husband received a job offer in New York and I received my acceptance letter to a fashion design program. We decided to take the plunge and we made the big move to NY!

MSD: Did you find any of the Steps particularly challenging? If so, how did you overcome the obstacle(s)?
CHRISTINE: Attending classes were the most difficult part of the whole process. Design programs are always intense, but I wasn`t quite prepared for the number of all nighters I would have to pull in order to complete all the assignments. It was extremely intense trying to juggle 9 classes the first semester, which was what was required for the fast track program. I had to keep a positive mindset and keep believing that I could finish the work on time every day. It was a challenge! The sheer amount of work that I had to finish for each class was pretty daunting, but with focus and determination, I was able to finish all the projects and submit good work. As the semesters progressed, I was able to learn how to balance my life better and learn to reduce the number of classes I took to a manageable amount, even if it meant that it might take a little longer than I had originally anticipated. I was able to get sleep and be more creative in my work.

MSD: Any general advice or tips you`d like to share?
CHRISTINE: I would advise people to follow their dreams and keep searching for it if they haven`t found it. Even if the path of your dreams looks impossible because of your current circumstances, whether it is because of your location, finances, time, etc., it is possible to achieve your dreams if you just take the first step and keep moving forward. The next step is always revealed to you along the way and somehow everything always works out. Follow your passion instead of letting fear prevent you from taking the risk to follow an unknown path. There may be challenges along the way, but you will be able to overcome them and you will feel happier and more fulfilled because you`re doing work you love!

MSD: What`s the next Someday you plan to make a reality?
CHRISTINE: My next Someday is to declutter my home. I am a new mom now and I want to make some big changes at home so that I can live in a simplified environment that supports my work and my life with a baby. Although we purged things along the way from our move from Chicago to New York, we`ve had to make quite an adjustment to the smaller apartments in New York. Within the next few months I am hoping to really organize my life and home. My goal is to only keep things that I use or love.

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
