Someday I'm going to:
Adopt a dog by: Jason
Adopting a dog is not only a big deal, but a decision that will change the next decade of your life.

  • img_assess your current living situation to ensure it`s a right fit for your dog:
how much space do you have?
 how often are you home?
are there rules in your building about pets?
what size is best for you?
 can you afford it?
what happens when you go out of town?
 etc.
Step 1: Assess your current living situation to ensure it`s a right fit for your dog:

  • img_ think about the type of dog you want. every breed has certain needs; not every breed fits every lifestyle. what age are you looking for? puppies are a lot of work (but so cute!) and need to go out every few hours. adults are usually house trained and less work. keep in mind that a senior dog may be great if you`re a first time dog owner, as they are pretty mellow, know how to behave, and don`t need to be walked as much. also, they are the hardest to adopt at a shelter so save one if you can!

  • img_ now comes the fun part, finding your new best friend! consider visiting local animal shelters to see if you fall in love with a dog that needs to be rescued. if you don`t see one at the time you visit, check back often, as most shelters get more dogs every few days. make sure you bring with you identification (or a pay stub, utility bill, etc.) to verify your address. test out dogs by asking if you can take them on a walk. you`ll know quickly whether or not there is a connection between the two of you. before you leave, you`ll most likely have to talk to an adoption counselor at the shelter. they`ll ask you questions to make sure you are a fit for the dog, and go over basics with you, including nutrition, exercise, hygiene, etc.

  • img_now that you`ve chosen a dog, find a vet and bring the dog to the vet ideally within a few days of bringing him/her home. the right vet will make your dog feel very comfortable during the exam. if you or your dog have reservations about the vet you picked, try another. it`s important to have a vet you can trust, as you`ll be seeing them a lot over the next 10-15 years.

your new dog will need a full exam, shots, rabies and possibly city tags, etc. also talk to your vet about microchipping, flea and tick treatments, and heartworm prevention.

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
