Is there anyone out there that likes to fly just to earn miles/status?

Perhaps there is something way wrong with me, but I find myself looking for the longest flights I can for a weekend trip just so I can get miles and status with an airline. Last month I was very close to booking a 2 day trip to Rio from Chicago....14,000 miles round trip.
Or i`ll avoid direct flights to get more segments.

Does anyone else do this? Or do I just have too much free time on my hands?

Umm..I use my American Express to purchase groceries just to earn miles. There is something about earning airline miles that can become addictive. The marketers for these companies has forever changed my behavior. By the way, Rio is incredible, you should go even if you have to fly Aeroflot.

haha, United has a thing where you earn double the status miles until June 15th. One round trip to rio will get you status for the next year automatically. Two and you`re gold.

I love how i spend lots of money to go on many unnecessary trips to earn miles when the miles will only get me a single round trip...

lol that sounds crazy! Pretty awesome that you have the money to do that really! You better be exploring each time you go to a new place and don`t just bum around in a shopping mall or the beach! But it sounds as though it is free time well used! :)

You should start a journal and always write about what you went to see and put pictures up and share! That`d be really cool (it might make me super jealous and I`ll have to stop reading it at some point, but still :) hehe ). I think you`d have tons of followers :)

I`ve recently become aware of the term "mileage running" which is what I was referring to originally. There`s actually a slew of people out there like me, and I chat with them on flyertalk.com.

If anyone out there likes the idea of mile running, send me a message!

Isn`t there a movie with George Clooney about this?

Yes there is! He does it for business though...I`m talking pure mileage running.... For example, in mid December I took the following trip in 26 hours, leaving me less than 30 minutes in my "destination" (San Diego)

Milwalkee > Chicago > San Fran > Los Angeles > San Diego > Los Angeles > San Fran > Chicago > Milwalkee

No real point in going other than to get the miles, and hit my next status milestone... Thinking about doing it again shortly if anyone is interested in joining me!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
