Someday I'm going to:
learn the ropes. by: Foster
I fell in love with climbing (figuratively speaking, so this doesn`t fulfill that other goal) the first time a friend took me up. I`d love to be able to go any time, any where, especially as I`m traveling more and seeing some amazing places to climb!

  • img_ in order to undergo any endeavor up an unknown towering rock face there are a lot of safety measures i should learn first. from tying off, creating a mid-climb anchor, to learning the knots, checks, and balances in which lives literally hang from. this is essentially learning the ropes (and gear) of climbing. the technical minutia that saves lives, and is consequently very important. it involves a lot of practice and patience and memorization. i`ve had a few lessons but have found i`ve retained little... mostly due to their infrequency.

  • img_climb more. the best way to learn, for me, is to do... or that is at least a very viable excuse to make more time for this wonderful pastime. this means networking and finding the people and places to climb. as a community i`ve found climbers to be quite sociable and approachable, at least when i`ve been with other climbers, but there is an aspect of community among them and i feel very much on the cusp of it when not in the company of others who`ve been doing this longer. so i need to reach out a bit and open up which is not the easiest of undertakings for me... but certainly possible.

i`ve heard of some climbing gyms here in seoul, but i understand they`re costly and there`s a considerable language barrier to content with, still, i`m going to make it a point to go to one.

  • img_lead a few climbs under solid tutelage. i know a friend of mine would be more than willing if i could demonstrate the necessary skills to allow me to lead and offer an honest, solid, constructive critique of my efforts, but i`m a good few months out from that even being a possibility. so, i may need to find others willing to teach a willing student, or find safe environments for exploration and experimentation (deep-water free-soloing anyone?). climbing with another person is often to literally cast your fate with theirs for your time together, so there is ample risk involved... but so long as its physical risk, i`m usually pretty game.

  • img_the final step is to amass the gear. this can be a very costly and consuming endeavor and can be stretched out indefinitely. it involves research, a knowledge base (to be constructed through the preceding steps) and considerable finances, though i`ve found many climbers are willing to share to accomplish a specific goal. i hope to eventually be one of those able to give and offer more than i inquire and receive. then i`ll be a climber... seeking new heights to traverse!

What is mySomeday.com Close
mySomeday is designed to help you achieve those goals and dreams you’ve always said you’d get to ‘Someday’. It was born from a universal truth; everyone has ‘somedays’ they want to realize. It was designed to address a universal reality; life, laziness or lack of know-how makes achievement elusive. ‘Plans’ are meant to address this gap between truth and reality. Whether you build your own original Plan or copy and customize an existing Expert or Community Plan, this detailed roadmap is meant to get you from start to finish. With a Plan, you can track your progress, set reminders and deadlines, get feedback from the community and much more. In addition to Plans, we hope that all of the elements of the site and the social connections that spring up will take people from idea, to plan, to partnership, and, ultimately, to achievement.
